Items that require: Dry cleaning, hand washing, ironing, cold water laundry or any other special handling are not your best choices for ease of care and comfort.

Velcro: If Velcro isn't handled carefully it quickly degrades from the heat of the laundry and will clog up with lint from the dryers. The best clothing manufacturers will primarily use longer lasting snaps, buttons and zippers.

Delicate Clothing: Such as acrylics, nylon nightgowns and nylon stockings, simply won't hold up well in this new environment.

Expensive Clothing: Keep these for special occasions. Use them as part of a daylong visit. Bring them in early, help your loved one bathe and get dressed up. Help them do their hair, fuss over their makeup, etc. then enjoy your day. If there isn't a special activity scheduled, just spend the time talking to them, reading out loud, or just writing letters for them. Sometimes, just bringing a book and reading to yourself is enough. Just knowing you're there if they feel a need, is often a nice enough special occasion. At the end of the day, help them undress and get ready for their normal afternoon activities or bed. Then take the good clothes home for the next time
